She is a qualified Hair Transplant Surgeon, and Illumination is proud to offer state of the art solutions to hair transplantation surgery and other hair restoration treatments. Hair loss in both men and women is a common area of concern for a variety of reasons.
This age-old conundrum has led to an increased demand for hair restoration solutions, and many varied techniques have been utilised over the years.
Contemporary technological advances as well as the fact that the procedure has evolved significantly over the two decades since the first surgery was undertaken, now means that men need no longer be afflicted with the previously incurable condition known as Male Pattern Baldness.
The strip technique involves removing a strip of scalp with hair follicles intact from the donor area. These follicular units are then dissected under a microscope and transplanted into the bald or thinning recipient area. The technique is invasive, and has a recovery time of between 7-14 days.
The FUE or follicular unit extraction method makes use of a specialised punch that is less than 1mm in diameter, and is used to extract each hair follicle from the scalp individually, and then transplanting it into the recipient area. This method is minimally invasive which means no scarring or stitching.
The recovery time is 2-4 days. However not all patients are good candidates for this procedure. Hence a consultation with your doctor prior to your procedure is important to assess suitability .
Illumination also provide non-surgical solutions for the treatment of conditions that lead to both temporary and permanent hair-loss in both our male and female patients.
Inhibiting the existence of dihydrotestosterone (a metabolite of testosterone) in our patients
Testosterone is the hormone that is responsible for Male Pattern Baldness. Dr Moosa will under the appropriate circumstances, provide a medical treatment which will actively block the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone.
Studies have shown that 80% of men using the medication have either maintained their hair-line, with some patients demonstrating active growth in new hair.
The medication does have side-effects, and a consultation with Dr Moosa is imperative in ensuring that the treatment is appropriate for your particular needs.
Unlike Male Pattern Baldness in men, hair loss in women is almost always caused by an underlying medical condition. Many women will to some degree experience a level of hair loss as a consequence of the aging process; however the extent thereof will depend on your age, genetic makeup, diet and lifestyle.
Changes in hormone levels and inadequate nutrition as a result of our modern diets and lifestyles are major contributors to hair loss in both men and women.
